Currently, my doctoral work at The Union focuses on questions of diversity in rural communities, with a particular focus on religious diversity. Through this research, I plan on expanding formal and informal educational curricula that may assist rural, and markedly less diverse, communities embrace and engage difference more constructively. As a proud rural community member, I want to change the story line of what its like to live in smaller communities.

- aldermanic community organizing project with Albany Park and West Rogers Park neighborhoods
- "Stories of Solidarity" project at Loyola - School of the America's/WHINSEC project
- created and implemented curriculum for Appalachian alternative break immersion trips
- conducted a study of the efficacy of cross-cultural experiences in developing notions of citizenship

Some highlights of community-based learning experiences through my studies at Emory & Henry College would include:
- developing and implementing a diversity education program for area middle and high school students
- organizing the initial stages of a "Rails to Trails" project between the communities of Glade Spring and Saltville, Virginia
- conducting expansive community surveys and long-form interviews for community development projects in Meadowview, Virginia
- developing and implementing a 16-county adult education (GED) enrollment campaign in partnership with NASCAR
- ongoing community development projects with McDowell County, West Virginia and Big Creek People in Action
