Southwest Virginia is a region known for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. It is also a place that struggles with the many difficult questions of our times: creating sustainable economies, ensuring our children are fed and educated, that citizens have access to affordable healthcare, and that the streams, forests, and mountains that draw so many here will be protected for generations to come.
The Appalachian Region is unique in its story, its people, and its future. I grew up in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, an area very similar to where I now call home. After some time away, I am excited to lay down roots here, to invest in this place, and to bridge my personal civic identity with my professional identity at Emory & Henry College.
