"If you have come here to help me, then you are wasting your time... But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together." -Lila Watson
I believe in a just world. I believe in the promise of healthy and safe communities. Furthermore, I believe we can reach that reality when people, regardless of their station in life, are able to make healthy and life-giving choices. One is able to make the best choices when all the options are known.
I place faith in the power of stories and how they bring people together. When we provide one another the chance to share our stories, tremendous things can happen. We find commonality in vision, in doubt, and in hope. We find that our differences are to be honored and to be seen as an asset for rich, multi-dimensional communities.
When we open up someone's world through education and through sharing stories, regardless of the format or setting, we're empowering them to make good and healthy choices for their lives. It may seem cliché, but knowledge is power. The promise that lies in providing honest, transformative educational experiences for individuals and communities is nearly immeasurable.
As a higher education professional, I've seen this promise realized time and again. I've seen students' lives changed and I've seen communities take hold of their futures. I am committed to the work of bringing people together, of creating spaces for people to imagine a different future, and of empowering communities to seek out the resources necessary to realize that future.
